Newton’s Second Coming

After the “meh… so so” reaction to the Apple announcement yesterday, all eyes are headed west to see what Origami is going to be. Don Dodge hits the nail right on the head when he talks about the interface. I was riding Metrolink a few weeks ago, and a guy got on the train and whips out his good old Apple Newton. This is a device that Apple started marketing in 1993, when I graduated from grade school, yet still has an annual conference, a user group, and an active effort to port the os to non apple hardware, despite being dead for almost 10 years.
This is why the interface is so important, and how much “finish” matters, in a device or in an application.

Also interesting, Microsoft is trying to generate some more “organic” hype about their product. It’s funny to see that they may have done too good of a job, and are a bit worried it may not live up to the hype.
